Ages 7+
There will be a required short parent/guardian meeting prior to each audition slot, so please remain in the lobby with your child.
Please prepare a 30-60 second, memorized musical selection in the style of the show. An accompanist will be available so please provide your own sheet music in the correct key. A sound system will be available for those using a track, but it is not preferred. Acapella auditions are strongly discouraged.
There will be a dance audition so please have comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear (you should prepare the provided dance combination(s) in advance of your audition). Those auditioning for Rudolpho should learn both the adult combination and the Rudolpho combination.
We encourage you to bring your completed audition form, conflict calendar, and consent form to the audition.
Video auditions must be submitted to hpct.info@gmail.com by 7:00 pm, Friday, February 24, 2023. Videos should include a 30-60 second vocal audition with accompaniment, the provided dance combination(s), and the provided side(s). The completed audition form, conflict calendar, and consent form must be included in your email.

Roald Dahl’s beloved story of an extraordinary young girl comes to life in Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical. Unloved by her parents, tormented by Headmistress Trunchbull, and armed with a vivid imagination, Matilda finds solace in stacks of library books. With the help of her caring teacher, Miss Honey, Matilda’s magic appears as she dares to take a stand and change her own destiny.
Runtime is approximately 2 hours and 30 mins including intermission.

Character Descriptions
Some roles have been precast - that is noted below.
Matilda Wormwood - An imaginative girl who is clever and wise far beyond her years. She has a thirst for learning that cannot be quenched. Vocal range: A3-D5
Miss Agatha Trunchbull - Precast
Miss Honey - Matilda's kindhearted teacher. She is tired of living in fear under Miss Trunchbull. Vocal range: F3-D5
Mr. Wormwood - Precast
Mrs. Wormwood - Precast
Michael Wormwood - Matilda's older brother. He is not very bright and is favored by their parents.
Bruce - Matilda's classmate. He is subject to extreme punishment by Miss Trunchbull. Vocal range: C4-E5
Lavender - Matilda's classmate and friend.
Mrs. Phelps - A nice librarian.
The Escapologist - A character in a story Matilda tells to Mrs. Phelps who comes to life in their imagination. Vocal range: C3-E4
The Acrobat - A character in a story Matilda tells to Mrs. Phelps who comes to life in their imagination. Vocal range: D4-A4
Rudolpho - Mrs. Wormwood's ballroom dance partner. Vocal range: D#3-A4
Doctor - Mrs. Wormwood's Doctor when she goes into labor with Matilda. Vocal range: C3-A4
Children’s Entertainer - A party entertainer at the start of the show. Vocal range: F#3-Eb4
