HPCT Presents Broadway Thursdays at Home!

Welcome to HPCT presents Broadway Thursdays at Home! High Point Community Theatre has partnered with the organization Broadways Weekends at Home to offer four (4) exciting workshops led by Broadway professionals! These interactive classes are being presented exclusively for HPCT’s Broadway Thursdays at Home series this summer. Classes will be held the last Thursday of the month (May-August) from 6:30-7:30 EST via a secured Zoom link. All 4 classes are designed to be enjoyed by all ages and experience levels... and from anywhere in the world!

Cost: Individual classes are $30; all 4 classes can be purchased for $100.

5/28 - Mark Evans - The Play That Goes Wrong
Class Description: Lecture & Q&A. After starring in the show for almost 18 months, Mark became the associate director of both the Off Broadway production and the recent US National touring production. Listen to Mark’s in depth discussion of the functionality of the show, the style, the castings and the rehearsal process. Additionally, he shares how to prepare the casts to exist in the discomfort of really not knowing what is going to happen.

Teacher Biography: Mark Evans is New York based British actor, director and teacher. He is currently playing the role of Stuart Dunmire in the brand new Broadway musical Mrs Doubtfire. He started as Dr. Pomatter in Waitress, Sam Wheat in Ghost, Elder Price in The Book Of Mormon, Fiyero in Wicked, Curly in Oklahoma and many other  Broadway, West End and international productions. Mark played the role of the extremely angry, uptight, and arrogant drama society director 'Chris Bean' in the recent Broadway production of the award winning comedy 'The Play That Goes Wrong'. 6/25 - Ben Thompson - Matilda
Class Description: Ben will lead you into the wild and wonderful world of Matilda, learning movement inspired by the hit Broadway Production.

Teacher Biography: Ben Thompson has been seen on Broadway in Matilda (Trunchbull), Holler If Ya Hear Me (Griffy) and American Idiot. His off-Braodway credits include Carrie (Billy) and Rent. On screen, he's been seen in Law & Order: SVU, Daredevil, BULL, The Seagull, Freedom and The Greatest Showman

7/30 - David Abeles - Cursed Child
Class Description: Lecture & Q&A. David describes his journey with the show, from the first rehearsals for Broadway to taking over the role of Ron in San Francisco.

Teacher Biography: David Abeles is an NYC-based Actor and Musician. Over the course of his career, he has appeared on and off Broadway, National Tours, and on the big and small screen. Some favorite roles include Ron Weasley in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Pierre in Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812, Eamon in the Original Company of Once, Agatha Trunchbull in Matilda the Musical, and Jerry Lee Lewis in Million Dollar Quartet.  David is currently living in San Francisco with his wife and two daughters having relocated to the Bay Area to play Ron Weasley at the Curran Theater.

8/27 - Steven Taylor - The Lion King
Class Description: This workshop will take you on a a step by step journey into the world of The Lion King as you immerse yourself in the music, dances and cultures that make up this award winning musical! An interactive theatrical crash course including a Q&A with Broadway’s current Mufasa: L. Steven Taylor.

Teacher Biography: L. Steven Taylor can currently be seen in the role of Mufasa in The Broadway production of The Lion King. Other stage credits include: A Chorus Line, Miss Saigon, Godspell, Twelfth Night. TV/Film: Legacies, Law and Order, Blue Bloods, Person Of Interest, Madame Secretary,  Elementary, Then Came You. NCIS New Orleans. His voice can be heard on Grand Theft Auto, Nickelodeon and countless commercials and audiobooks.
